Cutting
Laser cutting
Laser cuts thin and medium plates with precision and a clean finish, ideal for parts with many holes and cutouts and for repeat lots.
What we do
- Carbon steel, stainless and alloy plates
- Flat parts from DXF/DWG
- Preparation of parts for bending, rolling and welding

Materials
Capacity, maximum dimensions and lead time on request: send the drawing. See alloys in stock.
How laser cutting works
A focused laser beam melts the metal at a very small spot, and an assist gas (oxygen for carbon steel, nitrogen for stainless) blows out the molten material. The head is CNC guided from the DXF or DWG file, which allows complex contours, small holes and exact repetition in lots.
When to use it
Laser is the best choice for thin and medium plates where precision, speed and edge finish matter: plate flanges and gaskets, fabrication parts going to bending and rolling, brackets and parts with many cutouts. Nitrogen cutting of stainless leaves a clean, oxide-free edge, ready for welding.
Limits
Above certain thicknesses, or in alloys and applications where the edge must have no heat-affected zone, waterjet is more suitable. The maximum thickness and plate size for each alloy are confirmed in the quote.
What to send with a quote request
To get a quote, send the DXF or DWG file (or the dimensioned drawing), the alloy, the thickness, the quantity and the required tolerance. If the material comes from our stock, it ships with EN 10204 3.1 certificate and the heat number marked on the parts.
Supply tolerances
Machining allowance and tolerance for forgings, band saw cuts, machined parts and waterjet cutting are in Dustre's tables (INF 002 and INF 003): see supply tolerances. To size the forging from the finished part, use the open-die forging calculator.

Frequently asked questions
Does laser cutting alter the material?
It creates a very narrow heat-affected zone at the edge. In carbon steel and common stainless this does not change the performance of the part; in duplex and alloys for severe corrosion, when the edge stays exposed, we prefer waterjet or machining of the edge.
Does Dustre perform this service on customer-supplied material?
Yes, as long as the alloy and the specification are defined. We can also supply the material from our stock, with EN 10204 3.1 certificate.
