Cutting
Waterjet cutting
Abrasive waterjet cuts any alloy without heating the material. It leaves no heat-affected zone and does not alter the corrosion resistance of the edge.
What we do
- Thick plates and blocks of special alloys
- Parts with complex contours from the drawing (DXF/DWG)
- Gaskets, rings and flanges cut from plate
- Heat-sensitive materials (duplex, titanium, aged PH)

Materials
Capacity, maximum dimensions and lead time on request: send the drawing. See alloys in stock.
How waterjet cutting works
An ultra-high-pressure pump forces water through a very small orifice. An abrasive, usually garnet, is mixed into the jet and does the cutting work by erosion. The head follows the contour of the CAD file, and the cut comes out with little burr and without heating the part.
Advantages in special alloys
Since there is no heat, there is no heat-affected zone: duplex forms no intermetallic phases at the edge, titanium does not oxidize, aged 17-4PH does not lose hardness and stainless does not sensitize. The process cuts practically any material and thickness, including thick blocks and material combinations, with no tool change between alloys.
Finish and tolerance
The cut edge has a slight taper and a texture that depend on the cutting speed. For parts with tight tolerances or sealing surfaces, the cut is made with allowance and finished by machining.
What to send with a quote request
To get a quote, send the DXF or DWG file (or the dimensioned drawing), the alloy, the thickness, the quantity and the required tolerance. If the material comes from our stock, it ships with EN 10204 3.1 certificate and the heat number marked on the parts.
Supply tolerances
Machining allowance and tolerance for forgings, band saw cuts, machined parts and waterjet cutting are in Dustre's tables (INF 002 and INF 003): see supply tolerances. To size the forging from the finished part, use the open-die forging calculator.

Frequently asked questions
Waterjet or laser?
Waterjet for thick plates, heat-sensitive alloys and when the edge must have no heat-affected zone. Laser for thin and medium plates in series, where speed and finish matter more.
Does Dustre perform this service on customer-supplied material?
Yes, as long as the alloy and the specification are defined. We can also supply the material from our stock, with EN 10204 3.1 certificate.
