Application engineering
We help you choose the right alloy, standard and supply condition for the part's service before you buy. When a part fails, we investigate the cause and recommend the material or process that solves it.
What we do
- Material selection by temperature, pressure and corrosive medium (chlorides, H₂S, acids, high-temperature oxidation)
- Equivalents between standards and designations: UNS, ASTM/ASME, EN/W.Nr., ABNT/SAE and trade names
- Purchase specification review: standard by product form, heat treatment, tests and certificate
- Failure analysis: examination of the part, laboratory tests and report with probable cause and recommendation
- Replacement of imported or discontinued alloys with an available equivalent, with technical justification
- Definition of tests and acceptance criteria (PMI, hardness, tensile, Charpy, NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156)

How material selection works
We start from the real service conditions: temperature range, pressure, corrosive medium, mechanical loads and expected service life. We then compare the candidate alloys by mechanical strength at the working temperature, corrosion resistance (PREN, limits in chlorides, NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 limits for H₂S), weldability and availability. The result is a recommendation with the alloy, the standard for each product form and the heat treatment condition. For a first screening, use the steel by corrosive medium selector and the PREN calculator, or compare the families in duplex and super duplex and nickel alloys.
Failure analysis
When a part cracks, corrodes or wears earlier than expected, the analysis starts with the operating history and the examination of the fracture or the attacked surface. Then come the tests in our laboratory: PMI to confirm the alloy, hardness to check the heat treatment and, when material from the same heat is available, tensile and Charpy. The report states the probable cause (mixed-up alloy, heat treatment out of range, medium more aggressive than expected, fatigue, stress corrosion cracking) and the fix: another alloy, another treatment or another manufacturing process.
Standard equivalents and alloy replacement
Many drawings cite foreign standards, trade names or discontinued alloys. We cross-reference UNS, ASTM/ASME, EN/W.Nr., DIN, ABNT/SAE and trade names, and show where the match is only approximate (different composition ranges, treatment or tests). When the requested alloy is not available, we propose a substitute with equal or better performance, with the technical justification for the customer's approval.
What to send
Send the drawing or the current specification, the service conditions (temperature, pressure, medium, concentration, chlorides, H₂S), the equipment standard and the quantity. For failure analysis, include photos, the operating history and, if possible, the part itself.

Frequently asked questions
What information do I need to send for material selection?
Operating temperature (minimum and maximum), pressure, medium (composition, concentration, pH, chlorides, H₂S), expected service life, shape and dimensions of the part and the equipment standard, if any. With that we indicate the candidate alloys and the purchase standard for each form.
Does Dustre recommend materials for H₂S service?
Yes. In sour service the selection follows NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156, which sets hardness, temperature and H₂S partial pressure limits for each family. We indicate the alloy and treatment condition that comply and include the measured hardness in the certificate.
Does Dustre perform this service on customer-supplied material?
Yes, as long as the alloy and the specification are defined. We can also supply the material from our stock, with EN 10204 3.1 certificate.
