Cutting
Band saw cutting
The band saw cuts bars, pipes and blocks from stock to the exact length of the order, with minimal material loss.
What we do
- Round, square and hexagonal bars
- Pipes and billets
- Forged blocks
- Series cutting for lots

Materials
Capacity, maximum dimensions and lead time on request: send the drawing. See alloys in stock.
How band saw cutting works
A continuous blade with high-speed steel or carbide teeth runs between two wheels and cuts the bar or block clamped in the vise. Feed, blade speed and coolant are adjusted for each alloy: nickel alloys, duplex and titanium require lower speeds and dedicated blades, because they work-harden and heat up quickly.
Cut to size, with less loss
It is the process used to cut bars, pipes, billets and blocks from stock to the exact length of the order. The kerf is small, which reduces material loss, something that matters when the alloy is expensive per kilogram. It is also the first step for forgings and machined parts, when the billet is cut before heating.
Identification and traceability
Each cut piece receives the alloy and heat identification, and the EN 10204 3.1 certificate accompanies the order. Bar remnants return to stock identified, so they never lose traceability.
What to send with a quote request
Send the alloy, the shape (round, square, hexagonal, pipe or block), the section size, the length of each piece, the length tolerance and the quantity. If you need facing or chamfering, let us know as well.
Supply tolerances
Machining allowance and tolerance for forgings, band saw cuts, machined parts and waterjet cutting are in Dustre's tables (INF 002 and INF 003): see supply tolerances. To size the forging from the finished part, use the open-die forging calculator.

Frequently asked questions
Do you sell bar cut into small pieces?
Yes. We cut bars and blocks from stock to the requested length, including short pieces for machining, with 3.1 certificate and heat identification.
What is the tolerance of band saw cutting?
It depends on the section and the alloy and is confirmed in the quote. For tight length tolerance or parallel faces, the part is cut with allowance and faced on the lathe.
Does Dustre perform this service on customer-supplied material?
Yes, as long as the alloy and the specification are defined. We can also supply the material from our stock, with EN 10204 3.1 certificate.
