Cutting
Cutting of steel and special alloys
We cut material from stock to the size of the order. The process is chosen by the alloy, the thickness and the precision the part requires.
What we do
- Waterjet: no heat-affected zone, any alloy
- Laser: thin and medium plates with high precision
- Band saw: bars, pipes, blocks and billets

Materials
Capacity, maximum dimensions and lead time on request: send the drawing. See alloys in stock.
How we choose the cutting process
The choice starts from the material, the thickness and what the part will go through afterwards. Waterjet does not heat the part and cuts any alloy, including titanium, duplex and aged PH. Laser gives precision and finish on thin and medium plates. The band saw cuts bars, pipes and blocks to length.
Cutting and heat-affected zone
Thermal processes such as laser and plasma heat the edge and create a narrow heat-affected zone. In carbon steel this rarely matters; in duplex, super duplex and nickel alloys it can alter the corrosion resistance of the edge and require removal by machining. When the edge will be exposed to the medium or will not be machined, we recommend waterjet.
Cutting with traceability
Material cut from our stock keeps the heat identification on each piece and leaves with EN 10204 3.1 certificate. This matters in special alloys, where a material mix-up only shows up in service. On request, we check the alloy by PMI before shipment.
What to send with a quote request
To get a quote, send the DXF or DWG file (or the dimensioned drawing), the alloy, the thickness, the quantity and the required tolerance. If the material comes from our stock, it ships with EN 10204 3.1 certificate and the heat number marked on the parts.
Supply tolerances
Machining allowance and tolerance for forgings, band saw cuts, machined parts and waterjet cutting are in Dustre's tables (INF 002 and INF 003): see supply tolerances. To size the forging from the finished part, use the open-die forging calculator.

Frequently asked questions
Do you cut customer material?
Yes, as long as the alloy and the thickness are stated. We can also cut from our stock of plates, bars and blocks in special alloys.
Does Dustre perform this service on customer-supplied material?
Yes, as long as the alloy and the specification are defined. We can also supply the material from our stock, with EN 10204 3.1 certificate.
