Materials welded with ERNiCrCoMo-1
Dissimilar joints: Used in joints between 800HT, alloy 601, 310 stainless and heat-resisting steels when the service temperature exceeds about 760 °C.
Why the composition differs from the base metal
The wire does not copy 800HT or alloy 601: it is much richer in nickel and carries cobalt and molybdenum. This gives the bead creep resistance equal to or higher than the base metal at high temperature, since an as-welded deposit of the same chemistry would lose strength and ductility in service.
Welding precautions
- No preheating; interpass below 150 °C.
- Moderate heat input; the deposit is sensitive to hot cracking if contaminated.
- TIG with pure argon or argon-helium; argon root purge. Rigorous cleaning: oil, paint and markers contaminate the nickel alloy with sulfur and lead.
Frequently asked questions
What is ERNiCrCoMo-1 used for?
Ni-22Cr-12Co-9Mo-Al filler metal for service above about 760 °C, with high creep and oxidation resistance; indicated for 800HT, alloy 601 and joints between heat-resisting alloys.
Why is the composition of ERNiCrCoMo-1 different from the material it welds?
The wire does not copy 800HT or alloy 601: it is much richer in nickel and carries cobalt and molybdenum. This gives the bead creep resistance equal to or higher than the base metal at high temperature, since an as-welded deposit of the same chemistry would lose strength and ductility in service.
Which covered electrode corresponds to ERNiCrCoMo-1?
ENiCrCoMo-1 – AWS A5.11.
What precautions apply when welding with ERNiCrCoMo-1?
No preheating; interpass below 150 °C. Moderate heat input; the deposit is sensitive to hot cracking if contaminated. TIG with pure argon or argon-helium; argon root purge. Rigorous cleaning: oil, paint and markers contaminate the nickel alloy with sulfur and lead.
