Materials welded with ER80S-B2
Dissimilar joints: Also used to join F11 to carbon steel or C-½Mo (F1), adopting the preheat of the more highly alloyed material.
Why the composition differs from the base metal
Chromium and molybdenum follow F11, but carbon is kept low and silicon and manganese are dosed to deoxidize the pool. The result, after PWHT, is equivalent creep resistance with a lower risk of cold cracking.
Welding precautions
- Preheat and interpass of about 150 to 300 °C.
- PWHT typically between 650 and 730 °C, according to the design code.
- TIG with pure argon; MIG/MAG with argon and 2–5 % O2 or up to 20 % CO2*. Clean, dry wire and bevel to limit hydrogen.
