Materials welded with ERNiFeCr-1
Dissimilar joints: When an 825 joint will work with aggressive chlorides, it is common to switch to ERNiCrMo-3, which has more molybdenum.
Why the composition differs from the base metal
It closely follows the chemistry of alloy 825, including the titanium that ties up the carbon. The chemistry of the wire is practically the same as alloy 825 (C ≤ 0.05 %, Ni 38–46 %); the bead is fully austenitic, like the base metal.
Welding precautions
- No preheating; interpass below 150 °C.
- The nickel alloy pool is viscous and penetrates little: use a wider bevel, a smaller root face and place the wire at the edge of the pool.
- TIG with pure argon or argon-helium; argon root purge. Rigorous cleaning: oil, paint and markers contaminate the nickel alloy with sulfur and lead.
