Materials welded with ER80S-B8
Why the composition differs from the base metal
As with F5, the wire limits carbon to 0.10 % so that the bead, which hardens in air, does not become excessively hard. Unlike F91, there is no addition of V, Nb and N; that is why it must not be used on F91.
Welding precautions
- Preheat and interpass of about 200 to 300 °C.
- PWHT typically between 705 and 760 °C.
- Do not confuse with ER90S-B9, which is meant for F91.
- TIG with pure argon; MIG/MAG with argon and 2–5 % O2 or up to 20 % CO2*. Clean, dry wire and bevel to limit hydrogen.
