Materials welded with ER383
Dissimilar joints: In very aggressive chloride media, alloy N08028 is also welded with ERNiCrMo-3.
Why the composition differs from the base metal
The chemistry is almost that of the base metal, but with tighter carbon, phosphorus and silicon. As the bead is fully austenitic, those limits reduce the risk of hot cracking, and Mo is kept at the top of the range to compensate for segregation.
Welding precautions
- No preheating; interpass up to 100 °C.
- Low heat input and narrow beads.
- Pure argon for shielding and purging; pickling after welding.
