About titanium and special metals
Commercially pure titanium (grades 2 and 7) resists chlorides and oxidizers better than stainless and is used in heat exchangers, seawater and chlor-alkali; the Ti-6Al-4V (grade 5) and Ti-3Al-2.5V (grade 9) alloys combine strength with little more than half the weight of steel. Copper alloys cover other needs: beryllium copper and chromium-zirconium copper combine conductivity and hardness in electrodes, molds and springs; aluminum bronzes resist wear and cavitation in bushings and propellers; copper-nickels and naval brass serve piping and parts in seawater.
Other special metals, such as niobium, tantalum, Stellite and Invar 36, are supplied on request and join this group when they get a data sheet in the catalog.

Frequently asked questions
Does titanium resist any medium?
No. It is excellent in chlorides, seawater and oxidizing media, but it is attacked by hydrofluoric acid and by hot uninhibited reducing acids, and it can ignite in dry chlorine. In those cases grade 7 (with palladium) or nickel alloys are alternatives.
Is machining beryllium copper safe?
The solid part poses no risk. Beryllium dust and fumes are toxic: machining, grinding and welding call for coolant, extraction and particle control.
